Junior high and high school rodeo athletes from across the state and beyond came to Emporia this past weekend and took away much more than titles and experience in the arena.
According to Kansas High School Rodeo Association State Secretary Suzan Adams, the competitors at the recent qualifier event held at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Grand Stand Arena Saturday and Sunday also take with them a great deal of life experience.
Adams also says athletes are gaining a great deal of family time, noting that unlike other sports, the parents act as the coaches, managers and team transportation.
While it was a Kansas-sanctioned event, Adams noted that competitors were coming from beyond the Sunflower State as well.
This weekend’s rodeo was one of 10 KHSRA state qualifiers throughout the year, with the top performers moving on to the state finals at the end of the year. For more information or results from this or other events, visit KHSRA.net.
