Construction on a long-awaited improvement project at the CareArc main campus is set to begin by the end of this month.
That’s according to CEO Renee Hively, who shared the same information with the CareArc Board of Directors during their monthly meeting Tuesday afternoon. According to Hively, construction on a new parking lot is set to begin September 28th, with work taking place just off State Street behind the Hillcrest Apartments.
Hively says the project has been in the planning phase for the last year-plus, after the property was acquired back in January of 2025. Hively also says the project has safety at the forefront, noting the current parking situation along West 15th Avenue has been hazardous due to the constant flow of traffic and low visibility for employees when entering or leaving the current parking spaces. The construction is expected to take 30 days for completion once it begins and may be funded in part by a grant through Community Care Network of Kansas, an application for which is currently being drafted and must be submitted by September 30th.
Potential awards could be up to $100,000.
In separate matters, Hively updated the board on a recent award from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s oral health program of $58,000 for the 26-27 fiscal year to support school-based dental outreach programs. CareArc has already received $8,000 of those funds, which will be used to support and expand dental outreach services within the communities served by the health center.
There is no word on when the remainder of the funds will be allocated, but they must be spent by May 15th of, 2027.
In financial matters, CareArc had a monthly net income of $92,000, exceeding budget estimates and bringing the year-to-date net gain to $431,000. Expenses were $890,000 against revenues of $900,000.
The CareArc board will reconvene for its monthly meeting in October.
