The Emporia Main Street offices have been considerably fuller than normal over the last few days, with Main Street representatives from across the state in town for a quarterly training event.
According to Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods, the training, held Tuesday and Wednesday, focused on “economic vitality,” with Emporia Main Street emphasizing its specific programming.
When asked how it feels for Emporia to have been selected to showcase this particular topic, Woods stated it highlights the importance of not only having a qualified staff, but also a dedicated network of volunteers and donors who support their various programs and strategies.
When it comes to the quarterly training events, such as this week’s in Emporia, Woods says a common question many have is “Why?” He says they are typically referring to the in-person nature of the events as opposed to holding said trainings virtually.
Noting that they do a fair bit of training through virtual means, Woods says the face-to-face component of these trainings is vital for many reasons, including networking and information sharing.
The quarterly training this week will serve as a prelude to another major event coming to town next week, with the Rural Innovation Network (RIN) and Center on Rural Innovation (CORI) set to be in Emporia next Tuesday through Thursday.
