Lyon County Treasurer Sharon Gaede is headed towards retirement.
Gaede has served as Lyon County Treasurer since 2013 after replacing Dora Hartig. When speaking with KVOE News Thursday, shortly after the announcement was made, Gaede stated that she feels it is simply time to step down, noting that family time will occupy the majority of her free time once her retirement is finalized.
In addition to her 13 years as treasurer, Gaede has been with the county for the last 32 years, starting in the motor-vehicle department.
As for her decision to run for treasurer, Gaede says that came at the behest of both Hartig and her husband, Fred Gaede.
Looking back at the last 13 years as treasurer, Gaede says she is very proud of the work that has been done to streamline many processes for local taxpayers.
Gaede was re-elected in November 2024, and with her retirement happening mid-term, Lyon County Democrats have a special convention coming October 1 to fill the unexpired term. The meeting starts at 5 pm at the Democratic Party headquarters, 718 Commercial. Qualified precinct committee members will use secret ballots to vote on the candidates. The winning candidate must get a majority of all votes cast; if there is no majority winner on the first ballot, the process continues until there is a winner.
