USDA Rural Development has earmarked federal money for Coffey County Housing Authority.
Nearly $30,000 will help to “rehabilitate existing housing stock.” Rural Development Under Secretary Glen Smith thanked Second District Congressman Derek Schmidt for his presence and his interest in rural development. He also says continued support from federal lawmakers is needed to make these kinds of programs going.
Rural Development has 3 main areas: utilities, rural business including cooperative lending and rural housing. The rural housing program involves grants, guaranteed or direct loans and technical assistance. Smith says the agency has a $250 billion economic impact, and he says Wednesday’s announcement in Burlington demonstrates why Rural Development is important in general terms.
