A quartet of change orders related to the new Lyon County 911 center gained unanimous approval by Lyon County Commissioners Thursday morning.
The change orders totaled $17,426 and included the following items:
*Running four 4″ conduits underground from the IT room to the west side of the building.
*Upgrading from one 1″ conduit fiber from the IT room to road ROW to two 2″ conduits
*Infilling the west island in the parking lot with 360 square feet of 6″ reinforced concrete
*Infilling the east island in the parking lot with 1,270 square feet of 6″ reinforced concrete
The approval of these items comes with physical construction on the new structure, located on West South Avenue, well underway according to Justin Mallon of Evergreen Design-Build.
Mallon says once the physical structure is completed, the majority of work moving forward will be focusing on internal needs.
Mallon says current plans are for the structure and parking lot to be completed by late May. Once that work is complete, it may still be a short while before the center is fully operational due to the need to relocate all equipment from the current emergency communications center in White Auditorium.
According to Lyon County Communications Center Director Roxanne Van Gundy, “there are a lot of unknowns” currently when it comes to that aspect of the project.
Van Gundy says coordination with vendors and finalizing logistics will be her main focus moving forward over the next several months.
Once the move begins, Van Gundy says the hope is for it to be completed within 7 days. Regardless of the timeframe, Van Gundy says services will not be altered, as the state of Kansas has approved the use of its mobile 911 center to maintain operations until the relocation is complete.
In other business, Thursday, commissioners approved an engineering study proposal with BG Consultants totaling $5,000. One executive session for non-elected personnel matters was also held with no action taken.
County commissioners will reconvene for their weekly action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
