The Olpe Eagles used a dominant rushing attack to defeat St-Mary’s Colgan 29-0 on Friday night.
The win was the 500th win all time for Olpe, 175th win in Head Coach Chris Schmidt’s career, and the first victory in the new Olpe Sports Complex.
Abbott Bailey broke a 0-0 tie with a 20-yard rush with 5:23 remaining in the second quarter to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead. Colgan’s first play of ensuing drive, was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Drew Ritchie.
The Eagles would add a sack in the endzone by Isaac Knuth in the closing moments of the first half to take a 16-0 halftime lead.
The first drive of the second half did not result in points for Olpe but erased nearly 10 minutes from the third quarter clock.
Ryker Windle would add an 11-yard touchdown on the ground to push the game to 22-0 with 7:35 to go in the game. Bailey would add his second touchdown of the night with 4:07 to play from two yards out to finish the scoring for the game at 29-0.
Olpe held Colgan to just negative three yards in the second half.
Bailey ended the night with 24 carries for 143 yards, plus several key plays on defense.
Bailey credits his line up front for contributing to his success.
Olpe improves to 3-1 while Colgan falls to 0-4.
