It didn’t exactly take place in the wild, but a slight location change did not dampen the spirits of attendees at the annual Zoo Brew: A Night in the Wild fundraiser Saturday evening.
Due to showers and storms in the forecast, the event was moved indoors to the Zoo Education Center, but Zoo Director Brenda Young says the turnout wasn’t altered by the change, with the event once again being a sellout.
And despite having to relocate, guests still had plenty to enjoy during the evening, including food from Gourmet to Go, a variety of beverages from local vendors such as Radius, Mulready’s Pub, the Turquoise Tavern and Grace Hill Winery, as well as live music from the Dead City Rockers.
A 50/50 raffle also took place, adding another way for attendees to take part in the evening and support the work of EFOZ while also providing an opportunity, in Young’s opinion, to showcase the importance of the zoo and its programming for the community.
All proceeds from Zoo Brew will support Emporia Friends of the Zoo. Young says that support helps the organization continue its work on behalf of the zoo, much of which is seen and much of which isn’t.
