The Emporia State University School of Business and Technology has a new Dean.
Tuesday afternoon, ESU announced that Dr. Filiz Tabak had been selected as the new dean after being named to the role on an interim basis this past July. Tabak came to ESU earlier this year after previously serving as dean and professor of management for the College of Business at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Tabak holds three degrees from institutions in Istanbul, Turkey, including a bachelor’s in environmental engineering, a master’s in marine physics and chemistry, and an MBA with an emphasis in leadership and management. Tabak earned her Ph.D. in business administration from Oklahoma State University.
On Tabak’s appointment, ESU Provost Brent Thomas stated in a recent news release, “I have been impressed with what I have seen from her as a colleague and a leader who can strengthen and grow our School of Business and Technology. I look forward to working with her into the future.”
Tabak’s appointment concludes a search that began after the retirement of former Dean Ed Bashaw in 2024. ESU hosted three candidates for the position, Dr. Mohammad Mehri, Dr. Robert Allen King and Derek Yonai, on campus between late April and mid-May this year.
The university could not divulge why none of the original candidates were selected for the position. Shortly after Tabak was named as the interim dean in July, the university reopened the application window; Tabak applied, went through the process and was ultimately chosen.
