The only thing longer than the line inside the Sacred Heart Church Parish Hall was the line of vehicles around the block at the annual Sacred Heart Mexican supper Friday evening.
The turnout shouldn’t come as any surprise, as the attendance is always large and consistent for the annual fundraiser supporting the Sacred Heart PTO. Friday marked the 53rd installment of the dinner and the first for new Principal Laura Kneib, at least in her current role, as she noted to KVOE News Friday evening.
Kneib also said she has spoken with many people involved with the event since its inception, who noted how significantly it has grown over the last 50-plus years. She said one individual recalled the first installment serving more than 200 tacos to hungry residents.
As the event’s popularity has grown, so too has the number of servings, with right around 4,000 tacos prepared for Friday’s event. She says when it comes to putting on the supper, it is a total “family effort” involving the school, its families, and its faculty.
As mentioned, proceeds from the supper will go to support the Sacred Heart PTO, which helps provide for several experiences and programs within the school.
Fundraising totals are currently pending.
