Mark Remmert says he is running for the Kansas House 13th District position because he wants to represent the people of the expansive district.
Remmert started Green Dot Plastics 15 years ago and also has a small ranch outside Emporia. He says his skills and capabilities give him a chance “to lend a hand,” especially when it comes to the main issues of the day. The issue receiving the most attention — by far — is data center policy. Remmert has concerns about utility and water use, and he has concerns about how long data centers can be viable before they are obsolete. Remmert says there needs to be accurate information when it comes to data centers. He says the state needs to take the lead on that topic.
The state’s public education funding formula is set to be revisited — and possibly revised — during the 2027 legislative session. Remmert says the state’s decision not to properly fund education, especially on the special education side, has forced school districts to shift allocations to meet their specific needs.
Remmert sees the special education funding decisions having a direct and adverse impact on property taxes.
Remmert does not care for the push away from Medicaid expansion to the Rural Health Transformation model for health care, saying rural health care is “in a crisis mode” and Medicaid expansion would be a better method for ensuring health care — both for residents and for hospital finances.
Remmert is facing off against Republican Duane Droge, who has represented the district since 2023. Droge did not confirm interest in KVOE News’ traditional Candidate Forum political interview, which is why the interview Tuesday became a Candidate Profile.
Our first Candidate Forum is at 10:06 am Thursday, involving Kansas House 60th District incumbent Republican Mark Schreiber and Democrat challenger Maddison Glover.
