The Osage City Lady Indians are gearing up for the final games of their second flag football season as the sport wraps up its inaugural year as a fully sanctioned high school sport in Kansas.
Osage City finishes its campaign on the road Wednesday night at Osawatomie High School, taking on Bishop Ward and the Osawatomie junior varsity squad in a season-ending doubleheader.
Head coach Corey Linton has guided the Lady Indians through their second year on the gridiron, following their debut as a club program last fall which was only two games. The schedule has ballooned and included nine games this fall. Osage City enters Wednesday’s finale at 2-5 overall, fielding a resilient squad.
Quarterback Reagan Farwell has led the offense while Sofia Brabb sets the tone with a team-high 19 flag pulls on defense. In the secondary, Brynna Burd, Izzy Lyda and Farwell have each secured three interceptions.
Coach Linton noted that seeing the sport take root locally and watching the team’s growth from last fall has been a highlight of the season.
While Osage City is currently operating as a club team and won’t compete in this fall’s KSHSAA state tournament, Linton hopes this groundwork lays the foundation to join sanctioned state postseason play in the very near future.
Osage City caps off its season Wednesday night, while other newly sanctioned programs across the state gear up for regional postseason tournament action on Saturday.
