Turf replacement at Soden’s Grove will be getting underway by the middle of this month following approval of a contract by Emporia Recreation Commissioners on Tuesday.
During their special meeting, commissioners approved an agreement with Mid-America Sports Construction for just over $394,000 to replace the turf at Soden’s. According to Rec Director Amanda Gutierrez, the turf has far outlived its original eight-year life expectancy, having been in use for the last 14 seasons.
Gutierrez says Mid-America is set to be in town this next week with work currently scheduled to begin by Monday, October 19th; however, she says it could begin by the middle of next week depending on the procurement of materials.
Mid-America was one of three agencies to apply for the project, with ATG Sports and Field Turf also submitting bids this past month.
