The Emporia State soccer team ended a three-match scoreless drought with a 3-0 victory over Newman on Senior Day at the ESU Pitch Friday afternoon. The Lady Hornets wasted no time to get on the board when Megan Kephart scored on an assist from Medeline Bracy less than four minutes into the match. Ella Favot tacked on another goal with less than 15 minutes elapsed as E-State dominated possession throughout the game out shooting NU 21-5 overall and 14-2 in shots on goal. Peyton Pipes added a score on a Favot assist with 30 minutes to play to wrap up the scoring. It was the fourth shutout for the Black & Gold in five matches. Senior defender Emma Hemphill logged 77 minutes on the backline and said was great to celebrate a win with her fellow seniors.
For head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn, it was time to move on to a rivalry match as Washburn awaits on Sunday.
ESU (6-3-3, 3-1-2 MIAA) has allowed just one goal in their last five matches. The Turnpike Tussle is set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on Sunday.
