Flint Hills Technical College has a busy three days through the end of the week starting with the return of its culinary competition Thursday evening.
The Cut will kick off activities on Thursday evening inside the main campus, with culinary arts students Susana Sanchez, Isaac Joy, Antonio Miranda and Emily Hulce competing for the title this year. The students will be judged by a panel of culinary experts from the local community, the majority of whom have roots within the college’s culinary arts department, according to Stephanie Anderson of the FHTC Foundation, a recent guest of KVOE’s monthly Tech Talk Tuesday.
For those wishing to attend and observe the competition, tickets are $20 per person and $200 for a table of eight, with Anderson saying there are still plenty available.
The Cut is making its return from a one-year hiatus after college leadership chose to postpone the event last year in order to provide the current crop of students additional time to hone their skills before placing them into the live pressure situation. The Cut will also be just a portion of the college’s “Wrangler Weekend Activities,” which will also include a family movie night on Friday evening on the front lawn of the college’s campus, tentatively beginning at 6 pm.
The weekend will conclude with the college’s open house from 10 am to 2 pm Saturday. FHTC President Dr. Caron Daugherty says the open house will allow residents and families an opportunity to meet with faculty and staff, tour facilities and even try their hand at certain professions such as trucking.
