Wednesday’s rainfall caused a reported injury crash in southeast Chase County. Shortly before 5:50 pm, Emporia Fire/EMS responded to Kansas Turnpike mile marker 113.2, nearly 14 miles southwest of Emporia, after a semi carrying groceries hydroplaned and overturned. Nobody accepted hospital trips afterward.
An injury crash in western Osage County led to a hospital stay, although it is not clear whether rainfall was a contributing factor. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 3:20 pm at Turnpike mile marker 161.8, or over 30 miles northeast of Emporia. A car driven by 48-year-old Jonathan Norwood went off the highway, overcorrected, went back off the highway and rolled an unlisted amount of times. Norwood was taken to Stormont-Vail Health after suffering potentially serious injuries.
A flood watch continues for Greenwood County until 1 pm. Shower and thunderstorm chances become more isolated as Thursday progresses, with skies finally clearing overnight. Thursday’s high in the upper 60s will be followed by overnight lows in the low 40s and wind chills in the mid-30s. Friday will have blustery conditions with highs in the mid-50s. After frosty starts, Saturday will have a high in the upper 50s and Sunday will have highs in the mid-60s.
