The Emporia High football team ended a four-game losing streak Friday night, rolling to a 40-16 victory over Field Kindley at Welch Stadium.
The Spartans erupted for four touchdowns in the opening quarter to take control early. Noah Rodecap scored on a 6-yard run, Ben Collins added a 2-yard touchdown run, and Rodecap broke loose for a 41-yard scoring run. Cael Claibourn also connected with Talen Kirk on a 41-yard touchdown pass as Emporia built a commanding 26-0 lead after one quarter.
Emporia continued its offensive surge in the second quarter. Collins broke free for a 48-yard touchdown run before Gerald Clifton added a 32-yard scoring run, sending the Spartans into halftime with a 40-0 advantage.
With a comfortable lead, Emporia emptied its bench in the second half. Field Kindley found the end zone twice in the fourth quarter to account for its 16 points, but the Spartans had already secured the victory.
