The Emporia community gathered to celebrate Día de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, Saturday evening.
Día de los Muetos is a traditional Mexican Holiday celebrated to welcome the spirits of passed loved ones. Micheal Torres, who is the President of Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow, spoke with KVOE explaining the details of the Holiday and its importance.
As Micheal stated, the holiday is normally celebrated at the beginning of November, specifically on November 1st and 2nd. Even though HOTT held the celebrations early, there was also a time change to the event this year.
There were multiple activities that took place during the evening. Torres stated all of the events that took place. Including a light-up parade.
For those who would like to celebrate at home, you can build a traditional altar, prepare special foods, and share memories of past loved ones.
Day of the Dead will conclude the events for HOTT this year, but starting in January, they will begin preparing scholarships for high school students.
