Safety, education, and good causes remained the core principles of the Gary Fuller Memorial Shootout during the 9th annual installment of the local fundraiser on Saturday.
The shootout, which honors the memory of Gary Fuller, a longtime supporter of youth activities, specifically in 4-H, welcomed more than 50 participants at the family property, participating in various shooting sports disciplines. Before the activities began, all participants gathered for a safety briefing with Lisa Fuller, the wife of Gary Fuller, noting that safety is paramount when it comes to the event each year.
Fuller adds that when it comes to shooting sports, there is still a good amount of negativity surrounding it because of the sentiment many individuals hold towards firearms. With that in mind, she touted the importance of events like the shootout and shooting sports in general, noting that the primary focus is educating gun owners young and old alike.
As mentioned, in addition to the safety and education from the event, a major priority is the support of great causes, with proceeds over the years going to support 4H activities in the local area; however, Lisa Fuller tells KVOE News that over the last year, they have been able to expand their focus beyond just 4H.
Fundraising totals from the shootout are currently pending.
