Emporia State University’s Phi Delta Theta fraternity is hosting its 41st annual pole sit to benefit SOS.
Starting at 6 a.m. Friday and going through 10 a.m. Saturday, members of the fraternity will take turns sitting on a saddle-like seat atop a 14-foot steel pole in front of Kellogg Circle at the intersection of W 12th Ave with the goal of raising $15,000 for SOS’s organization.
PDT’s philanthropy chairman Logan Griffin said organizing the annual fundraiser takes a village of supporters.
Throughout the 28-hour fundraiser, members of the fraternity will take donations from folks as they drive by who, chapter president Giancarlo Urenda said, will have the chance to see some celebrity sitters throughout the day.
A popular PDT fundraiser, Urenda said it’s common for fraternity alumni to return and lend a hand every year. As a group who’s passionate about their cause, Urenda said it means a lot to current members to have that network of support.
For folks who can’t make PDT’s pole sit, donations can be delivered to SOS by visiting the organization directly at 1420 C of E Drive from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
