Emporia High will open postseason play at home next week as the brackets are set for the Class 5A high school boys soccer regional tournament.
The Spartans earned the No. 5 seed in the West region and will host No. 12 Goddard in a semifinal matchup Tuesday. Emporia enters the postseason with a 12-3-1 record, while the Lions finished the regular season at 7-7-2.
Emporia has been strong on both sides of the field this season, outscoring its opponents by 20 goals. Goddard, meanwhile, has struggled defensively, allowing nearly three goals per game.
The winner will advance to Thursday’s regional final, where it will face the winner of the other semifinal between No. 4 Kapaun Mt. Carmel and No. 13 Valley Center which is scheduled for Monday.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel enters the tournament with a 13-2 record, while Valley Center holds a 6-7-3 mark. The Crusaders will look to use their strong regular-season performance to advance, while the Hornets aim to pull off an upset.
Emporia will look to take advantage of its home field and continue its successful season with a win over Goddard on Tuesday at Spartan Field, putting EHS one victory away from a regional title.
