Emporia High’s cross country teams are heading to state after both the boys and girls squads earned third-place finishes Saturday at the 5A Sub-State meet at Lake Barton Golf Course in Great Bend.
The Spartans earned their team qualification on the back of two top-10 individual performances. Xaden Delgado led the charge for Emporia, pacing the team with a strong fifth-place finish. Walker Metcalf delivered a crucial top-10 performance, crossing the line in ninth place to seal the squad’s third-place team finish.
The Lady Spartans matched the boys with a third-place team result, powered by a formidable one-two punch at the front of the pack. Emma Beatty spearheaded the run, claiming a podium spot in third place. Madison Evans stayed right on her teammate’s heels, placing sixth to anchor the team’s state-qualifying effort.
