The Lyon County Motor Vehicle and Treasurer’s offices will be closed Thursday afternoon.
The offices will open as normal starting at 8 am but will close at 12:30 pm and remain closed for the remainder of the day. The reason for the closure is so staff can assist with and attend the retirement celebration for longtime County Treasurer Sharon Gaede.
The community is invited to the reception, which will be held in the Lyon County Commission Chamber room from 2 to 4 pm Thursday. Gaede’s final day will be Friday.
Gaede began her career with the county in 1994 and was elected Treasurer in 2013. Gaede was re-elected in November 2024, and with her retirement happening mid-term, Lyon County Democrats have a special convention coming October 1 to fill the unexpired term. The meeting starts at 5 pm at the Democratic Party headquarters, 718 Commercial.
Qualified precinct committee members will use secret ballots to vote on the candidates. The winning candidate must get a majority of all votes cast; if there is no majority winner on the first ballot, the process continues until there is a winner.
