Lyon County Treasurer Sharon Gaede celebrated her retirement Thursday with a reception inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
After 32 years with the county and 13 years as treasurer, Gaede said she’s excited for her transition to retirement, though it feels bittersweet.
During her tenure, Gaede said she was able to accomplish many things she’s proud of, like making the motor-vehicle department office more welcoming for people in the community.
To fill the two years left in Gaede’s term, Lyon County Deputy Treasurer Sherra Kuestersteffen will step up to the plate, a task Kuestersteffen said is an honor.
Kuestersteffen started at the motor-vehicle department in 2013 as a supervisor before taking on her position as deputy treasurer in 2024. As she heads into the busiest time of the year for the treasurer’s office, Kuestersteffen said she’s leaning on the support of her team and the work of her predecessor to best serve the community.
Kuestersteffen’s swearing-in ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. Monday inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
