The Marais des Cygnes Valley High School volleyball team concluded an impressive postseason run with a fourth-place finish at the Class 1A Division II State Tournament at White Auditorium in Emporia on Saturday.
The Lady Trojans’ championship hopes were cut short in the semifinals by eventual state champion Hanover, who defeated MdCV in straight sets, 25-13, 25-21. Despite the loss, MdCV showed tremendous fight in the second set, charging out of the gate to score the first seven points and pushing the Wildcats to the final rallies.
In the third-place match, the Lady Trojans faced a familiar foe in Cheylin for the second time in as many days. Cheylin managed to sweep the match 25-16, 25-20, leaving MdCV with a hard-earned fourth-place state medal to cap off a remarkable tournament performance.
