Emporia Main Street’s annual Holiday Soldier Care Package Drive is about to begin.
Jessica Buccholz of Main Street, a recent guest of KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, noted the drive, as always, will kick off in full force Saturday at Emporia’s annual Freedom Fest at the All Veterans Memorial.
For those unable to attend Freedom Fest, Buccholz says they will be accepting donations, both of items and monetary gifts, in the Main Street offices through December 11th. When it comes to physical items, Buccholz says there are, as always, some popular dos.
There are also several don’ts.
Buccholz also says clothing is not recommended and alcohol and tobacco products cannot be sent. Buccholz also reminded residents many times to be mindful of the weight of certain objects, as Main Street does have to pay shipping based on weight, with an average package ranging from $25 or higher to send overseas.
As for how many packages will be sent, that is still uncertain at this time, with Buccholz noting they work closely with retired Sgt. Major Steve Harmon to seek out and identify either local or Kansas-based soldiers to benefit from the generous gifts.
