As Emporia gears up for Veterans Day on Nov. 11, organizations across town are getting ready for the holiday’s slate of activities.
From the annual downtown parade at 9:30 a.m. to the Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. , local veteran Clay Childs said there’s a lot to look forward to this year as the community celebrates a day full of significance.
Veteran Ron Whitney from the American Legion said this year’s ceremony will feature something unique for those in attendance.
Though construction near the memorial is still ongoing, Whitney said there are still a few lots for people to use when making their plans, though planning ahead is what Whitney recommends for community members interested in attending the ceremony.

After the ceremony, American Legion Auxiliary member Shari Meade said the organization will host the community for the sixth year in a row during their annual, donation-based Veterans Day lunch from noon to 2 p.m.
