The Emporia Farmers Market hosted its annual Soup-a-Palooza fundraiser Tuesday.
Community members gathered in the Anderson Building on the Lyon County Fairgrounds to enjoy the market’s signature homemade soups and desserts while raising money for the organization’s efforts, which volunteer manager Ginger Hartup said is always a big help.
From their famous sausage and potato soup, to classic tomato, the farmers market’s team of volunteers served it all. Traditionally, Hartup said, the team usually plans their soup event to coincide with the end of the summer market and the beginning of the winter market, which just so happens to fall on election day every year.
Set to open at 10 a.m. this Saturday at Waters Hardware, Hartup said Emporia’s winter market offers a lot of options for people who might be more accustomed to a summer farmers market cycle.
Along with the more traditional farmers market produce, Hartup said community members can look forward to more handmade baked goods and products at the winter market as the holiday season approaches.
With just six months as volunteer manager under her belt, Hartup said she’s hoping to bring more civic groups and local writers to future markets. For more information, or to get involved, visit emporiafarmersmarket.org.
