The top-seeded Washburn soccer team exploded for four second-half goals and eliminated No. 5 seed Emporia State 5-0 in the semifinals of the 2026 MIAA Soccer Tournament at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita Friday afternoon. Washburn led 1-0 at the break before blasting off in the second half while Emporia State struggled to maintain possession. The Lady Hornets were outshot 24-9 and 15-8 in shots on goal. After the match, head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn said the lopsided final shouldn’t reflect the team’s entire year.
Emporia State wraps up the year 9-6-5 after finishing 5-3-4 inside MIAA play.
