Emporia’s First Friday Art Walk celebrated its 10-year anniversary on Friday.
Founders Kaila Mock and Joel Smith joined Art Walk’s executive director Kat Dorcas on KVOE’s Friday morning show to share a bit about the event’s significance and to reflect on the last decade.
From establishing partnerships with community businesses, to seeing artists grow and develop over time, when Smith considers the event’s humble beginnings, he said he’s thrilled to see the Art Walk become what it is today.
Though Dorcas said she never anticipated leading the Art Walk’s charge when she got involved four years ago, she said being a part of the event’s success has been an unanticipated pleasure.
When she considers the Art Walk’s tin anniversary, Mock said there’s no shortage of memorable experiences to pull from. The most rewarding part of the event, Mock said, has been providing a space for artists of all ages to flourish.
