The Lyon County Planning and Zoning Department hosted its first community discussion on data centers and battery energy storage systems on Thursday.
Community members gathered in the county courthouse annex as Planning and Zoning Director Sam Seeley answered questions, heard concerns and shared some of the county’s current draft regulations for potential future data centers.
Though the city voted to pause the data center conversation for a decade during Tuesday’s election, the county, Seeley said, is on its own separate timeline.
The current moratorium on data centers put in place by county commissioners in July is slated to end by mid-January. That’s when all regulations would need to be finalized, though Seeley said the moratorium could be extended any time.
Seeley will host the next data center and battery storage system community discussion next Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the county courthouse annex. For folks who have questions before then, Seeley said his door is open.
