The Emporia Farmers Market’s annual winter market kicked off its season on Saturday.
Local growers, bakers, crafters and more gathered in the aisles of Waters Hardware to sell their goods to the community. With this being her first winter market as volunteer manager, Ginger Hartup said Saturday’s turnout was better than expected.
With about five months of winter markets to plan for, Hartup said she’s looking forward to the addition of more market programming. From a grant-funded youth program to food demonstrations, Hartup said she and her team have some ideas up their sleeves for future market activities.
As Hartup gears up for the rest of the winter market’s season, she said she’s hopeful people in the community realize just how important their participation in each week’s market actually is.
