Severe thunderstorm activity has cleared the KVOE listening area after a stormy morning Sunday.
Strong storm systems triggered a number of warnings across the listening area, however, did not bring much in the way of severe activity aside from a few varied sizes of hail.
*Cassoday: Half dollar sized hail (1.25 inches)
*Eureka: Quarter sized hail (1 inch)
*Hamilton: Quarter sized hail (1 inch)
*Lamont: Ping pong ball sized hail (1.5 inches)
*Osage City: Golf ball sized hail (1.75 inches)
A handful of power outages were also reported near Hamilton, Eureka and Saffordville. Less than 10 customers were affected in each area.
The systems did bring brief heavy rainfall to Emporia and most surrounding communities. At the KVOE studios, we received 0.4 inches.

An injury accident was reported on the Kansas Turnpike near the Lyon-Wabaunsee county line shortly before 11 am. Heavy rainfall was occurring at the time, although it’s unclear if it played a role in the crash.

A risk of strong storms continues south of Emporia.
A severe thunderstorm watch continues for Greenwood County until 3 pm. All other area counties, including Lyon County, have been cleared.

Noon Sunday: Small scale outages and large hail only visible results of severe storm activity Sunday morning
Area residents woke up to a stormy morning Sunday with systems triggering several warnings across the area, but severe activity cleared the area before lunchtime.
In terms of severe activity, 60 mph wind gusts were reported in Allen. There were also several reports of large hail:
*Cassoday: Half dollar sized hail (1.25 inches)
*Eureka: Quarter sized hail (1 inch)
*Hamilton: Quarter sized hail (1 inch)
*Lamont: Ping pong ball sized hail (1.5 inches)
*Osage City: Golf ball sized hail (1.75 inches)

Thunderstorms capable of producing severe weather have triggered warnings for parts of the KVOE listening area.
Warnings came in two general batches, one from 7-8:30 am and another starting around 10 am.
