The final day of the 2023-24 high school athletic season ends Saturday with the final day of the Kansas State High School Activities Association State Track and Field Championships at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.

In 2A boys 100m, Tanner Heckel won the state championship in 10.78 defeating St. Mary’s Colgan’s Tucker Harrell by .66 setting a new state record. Heckel also won the long jump with a state record mark of 23-11 1/4.
In 2A girls discus, Mission Valley’s Emma Slade won with a toss of 138-3. She’ll leave the state meet with a pair of top-2 finishes after taking second in the shot put on Friday.
Chase County’s Madelyn Wilson finished 16th in the event. Wilson finished fourth in the javelin for her second medal of the weekend.
In Class 1A girls javelin, Waverly’s Josie Romig finished fourth (128-1).
Lebo’s Audrey Peek finished seventh (121-11).
Madison’s Jalynn Weakley was 11th (112-11) while Olpe’s Grace Coughlin was 12th (109-6).
The area’s first state champion Saturday morning came in the 3A girls 100m hurdles, which was won by Burlington’s Keeley Hoback in 14.99. She also placed third in the 3A 200m. (25.99).
Hoback was joined on the Wildcats’ 4x100m relay by Alexa Ratzlaff, Haylei Potter and Olivia Lyons to claim first place.
Chase County’s Luke Budke finished second in 2A pole vault with a clearance of 13-0.
Emporia High’s Paige Newland earned her second medal of the weekend finishing fifth in the long jump (17-1.50).
Osage City’s Lexi Boss finished seventh in the 3A javelin and departs the state meet with two medals after winning discus on Friday night.
In the 4x800m relays, the Olpe girls team of Kinley Heins, Kadey Robert, Milly Bailey and Lilly Skalsky finished sixth (10:24.93).
Northern Heights finished ninth (10:31.65). The Burlington girls relay finished 15th (10:59.73) in 3A. On the boys side, in 1A Olpe finished 11th (9:00.77) while Northern Heights finished 16th (9:27.86). In 2A, Chase County finished 13th (8:48.28).
In the 1,600m, Northern Heights’ Ellei McCrory won the event in 1A in 5:10, while Lilly Skalsky of Olpe finished 14th. Osage City’s Emory Speece was eighth in 3A. Lebo’s Caleb Durst won the 1A boys 1,600m while Northern Heights’ Cooper Hamlin finished seventh.
Emporia High’s Daghyn True finished sixth in the 5A 1,600m.
Chase County’s boys 4x100m relay team of Budke, Wyatt and Brock Griffin and Tag Groh won the event in 43.84. The quartet also won the 4x400m relay.
McCrory finished her weekend with three medals after a fourth place finish in the 800m.
Durst capped off his weekend with three medals after a seventh place finish in the 800m.
Hartford’s Grayson Dailey finished second in the 1A 400m (50.10). Groh finished second in the 2A 400m (50.39). Groh took fourth in the 200m in 2A.
Dailey finished eighth in his 200m in 1A.
Osage City’s Quenten Stark finished fourth in the 3A 200m. Council Grove’s Evan Carr finished sixth in the 3A triple jump.
Emporia High’s Harley Smith finished sixth in the 5A 200m with a time of 26.24.
In the team standings, Lyndon finished second in Class 2A with 50 while Chase County was third with 49.
