The Kansas City Chiefs gutted their way back to the Super Bowl for the third time in four seasons by defeating Cincinnati 23-20 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night.
Pushed into field goal position by a kick return from Skyy Moore and a roughing-the-passer call as quarterback Patrick Mahomes went out of bounds, Harrison Butker kicked a 45-yard field goal with 3 seconds left.
Mahomes threw for over 300 yards, still battling a high ankle sprain suffered in the playoff game against Jacksonville the week before. Chris Jones also had two sacks as the Chiefs defense harassed Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow for most of the game.
It’s the third time in four years the Chiefs have played in the Super Bowl, defeating San Francisco in 2019 and losing to Tampa Bay the following year. The Chiefs now play Philadelphia in Super Bowl LVII. The game will be in Phoenix.
