Robots did the bidding of their student masters this week, during the Robotics competition hosted at Emporia State University's Visser Hall.

About 70 students came to the Emporia High School library to get help with financial aid Sunday, as part of College Goal Sunday. Site co-coordinator Jessica Sauer said College Goal Sunday is meant to relieve some of the intimidation with applying for federal student aid.

The Cremer Hall elevator was certainly busy Monday, carting students up as they pitched their business ideas to a willing listener.

This is the weekend many Emporia State students will spend outside in the elements.

It's time again for Sleep in a Box to benefit the Emporia Rescue Mission. On KVOE's Newsmaker segment Thursday, organizer Chelsea Weber said she enjoys being a part of the event and helping the men staying at the mission.

The newly-renovated Trusler Residence Hall is open, and the freshmen are moving in. Assistant Director of Residential Life Paul Jacobsen-Miller says people were "chomping at the bit" to move in since Sunday, and now they face a unique problem.

Students shared their thoughts on the importance of honoring veterans Sunday.

Veterans Day activities marched on Sunday, Nov. 10, with Emporia Middle School playing host to the Student Essay and Poster Contest. Students from 5th grade to 9th grade and their families gathered for the awards ceremony, and to listen to guest speaker Drew Nyman, a retired member of the Marine Corps and wounded veteran.

Emporia State University students hosted their close ones on campus Saturday for Family and Friends Day.

Families could be seen touring the campus throughout the morning prior to the football game against Northeastern State University.

The Lyon County Fairgrounds' electrical system is generally old and needs significant upgrades.

The investigation continues after an abandoned house was destroyed by fire Tuesday.
